On Monday night, the Connersville Freshman Boys Basketball team took to their home court to take on the Lawrenceburg Tigers. The Spartans were able to get off to a better start than their previous outing, forcing several turnovers that led to scoring opportunities to take an 8-5 lead after the first period. The second quarter was a stalemate between the conference rivals; turnovers and missed shots plagued Connersville during this time. Landon Ellis was able to knock down a three, followed by a steal and score to give the Spartans a 13-8 lead going into the break. Once again, Connersville used the halftime intermission to make adjustments for a second-half push. They outscored Lawrenceburg 15-4 during the third period, tightening up defensively and attacking the gaps on offense. The Spartans, with a collective team effort, closed out the Tigers and took home the victory, 37-24. For the Spartans, Landon Ellis led the way, with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Kayson Mckinney followed up with 9 points and 9 rebounds, while Eli Smith also had 9 points on a trio of three pointers. Carson Moore scored 4, to go along with 3 rebounds. Justin Kitchen added 2 points while grabbing 6 rebounds. Zane Ellison rounded out the scoring with 2 points and 3 rebounds. Andrew Miracle, Gavin Schneider, and Gavin Mullins added valuable minutes, tallying a number of rebounds and steals. Adam Allen and Parker Brewer also saw the court for the Spartans. Coach Neuman on the win, “I was proud of our energy and effort tonight. Our goal coming in defensively was to speed them up and make them uncomfortable on offense, and we did just that, forcing 13 turnovers. I believe we settled a bit on offense, which, combined with our poor shooting effort made it difficult for us to pull away. We did a great job on the boards, grabbing 16 offensive rebounds, which gave us numerous second-chance points.” Your Freshman Spartans will be in action again on Friday for another Conference matchup against the Rushville Lions.
