Connersville

Last night the CMS 8th grade white basketball team traveled to Shelby County to take on Southwestern. Connersville set the tone early with tough defense, holding a 4-3 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter CMS held Southwestern to 0 points until they hit a 3 at the buzzer, cutting the Spartans lead to two at halftime. A cold shooting stretch in the third quarter allowed Southwestern to take a 12-11 lead going into the 4th quarter. In the 4th quarter the Spartans held a 4 point lead with 10 seconds to go until Southwestern hit a 3 to cut the lead to 1. Coming out of a timeout, Southwestern was in a full court press, the Spartans ran the in bounds play perfectly that saw Holland Moore throw a great pass down court to Xavier Cooley who hit the game sealing layup to give the Spartans a 21-18 win. We showed a ton of toughness tonight. It wasn’t always pretty, but the boys kept competing, especially when we fell behind going into the fourth quarter. I’m really proud of the way we responded. Leading scorer for the night was Holland Moore with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Xavier Cooley added 6 points, Asher Erving 4 points, and Daxton Gregory rounded out the scoring with 1 point. The 2-0 Spartans are back in action on Monday when they travel to Rushville. 7th grade game scheduled to tip off at 6pm.
