The Connersville Lady Spartans traveled to Batesville for an EIAC matchup against the Lady Bulldogs and came away with a hard-fought 3–2 victory in a highly competitive contest that could have gone either way. The Spartans maintained their composure throughout, and when games tightened, they dug deeper and stayed the course. At singles, Sophia Starr led the way at No. 1 with a convincing 6–2, 6–2 win over Grace Gutzwiller. Bella Starr followed with a strong effort at No. 2, defeating Adalynn Fledderman 6–1, 7–6 (7–4). The longest match of the day came at No. 3 singles, where Amieyla Mays battled through three sets before falling to Ellie Westerfield 2–6, 7–6 (7–4), 10–7. In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Cam Butts and Trinitee Steele couldn’t find their rhythm, dropping a 3–6, 2–6 decision to Ava Walsman and Grace Walter. The No. 2 duo of Maddie Harrison and Ella Miller had a steady performance winning 7–6 (7–5), 6–4 over Ava Walsman and Grace Walter In junior varsity action, Cat Graves earned an 8–6 victory over Aurora Mertz at No. 1 singles. Frances Kelly fell 3–8 to Addie Reding at No. 2, while Payton Dice dropped an 8–3 decision to Karsyn Watson at No. 3. In doubles, Sophie Neal and Tessa Kelley were defeated 3–8 by Miki Gutzwiller and Lyla Streuwing at No. 1. Madison Smith and Ella Poe also fell 3–8 to Ella Carpenter and Brynlie Oesterling. At No. 3, Danie Abrams and Lorelei Hughes lost 0–6 to Lilliana Adams and Sophie West. Rylie Keal and Kami Scott picked up a win at No. 4 doubles, defeating Eliszabeth Barry and Natalie Kranz 6–4. At No. 5, Addy Storms and Eileen Wang came up just short in a 5–7 loss to Harper Beshears and Ishita Patel. The Spartans (9-4, EIAC- 3-1; junior varsity- 7-2-1, EIAC- 2-1-1) return to action Thursday, May 7, hosting EIAC opponent Lawrenceburg for Senior Night at 5 p.m. Blue River Valley makes the trip Friday, May 8, in a junior varsity matchup for a 5 p.m. start. The week concludes Saturday, May 9, with the four-team “A Serve To Remember” Invitational featuring Connersville, Franklin County, Hauser, and Lapel. Matches begin at 9 a.m.
