This Wednesday, the CMS Lady Spartans traveled to New Castle to face the New Castle Lady Trojans in a rematch of the season opener. The Spartans opened the scoring in the first half, going up 1-0 early on a goal by Alyssa Richmond (7th). Toward the end of the first half, in the 25th minute, New Castle scored and tied the match. Shortly after, lightning was seen in the area, and following safety protocols, the game was paused. When the game resumed, both sides agreed to start with the second half. The Lady Spartans came out strong with Charli Corbitt (7th) scoring two goals within four minutes, putting the Lady Spartans up 3-1. Unfortunately, your Lady Spartans couldn’t see out the game, and New Castle scored three second-half goals to win 4-3. This was a tough result for the Lady Spartans, who once again generated plenty of scoring chances but failed to convert them into more goals. This, combined with being caught unprepared for last-ditch recovery efforts and New Castle's determined second-half performance, ultimately led to the result. With a young team learning how to see out a game and get a win is a learning process, and the coaches are hopeful that this will help the team grow through the remainder of this season and into next year. Notable performances include: Charli Corbitt (7th) with her third multi-goal game of the season, Maizey Leach (6th), Bobbi Welter (6th), Alyssa Richmond (7th), and Kam Harmeyer (7th). The “Larry Shaker Shot Maker” award winner was Emma Haffner (6th)! Women of the Match: Laney Holmes (8th), with another outstanding performance at center back, and Jillian Risselman (7th) at right back, who made recovery runs all game and provided terrific defensive cover for the team.
