The CMS Cross Country team had their last home meet of the season, hosting Centerville and New Castle on Thursday 9/17. It was a very hot and humid day to run the hilly home terrain. The girls had another great day, with a strong second place showing against a good Centerville team, falling by one point, and defeating New Castle. The team is now 3-7 on the year. Essmae Brewer led the team in 5th place outkicking teammate Cree Slater in 6th at the finish by one second. Brewer ran a 15:13, while Slater was clocked at 15:14. Riley Smith was 7th with a personal best time of 15:31. Melanie Jolley shaved almost 3 minutes off her Tuesday time to finish 12th (18:33) and Leanna Paul raced to a 13th place finishing in 19:38. The boys had another great competition, sweeping the meet, defeating both visiting schools. Leo Moyer continued his storybook season finishing first with a blazing time of 11:16, only 3 seconds off the course record. Desmond Shipman was 2nd (11:50), Clay Glover 3rd (12:51) with the Spartans sweeping the top 3 spots! Landon Bales had his best race of the season finishing 5th (13:47), Noah Frost 6th (13:48), Boyd Durstine 7th (13:50), only 3 seconds separated those 3 runners. Hunter Gregory 10th (14:42), Andrew Biehl 13th (16:38) and Ryan Owens 15th (18:34) took two and a half minutes off his Tuesday time to round out the scoring. The boys claimed 6 of the top ten spots to seal the victory! The team now sports a shiny 8-2 record. The team can take a breath with no meets scheduled for next week. Coach Gibbs is glad to have some much needed practice time to prepare for the E.I.A.C Conference meet on Monday 9/28 in Greensburg.
