The Spartans hosted Waldron Thursday night in a very competitive match. Waldron is the #3 team in our district and we are #4. The match was very tight and the scores showed. Waldron came away with a 3-2 win. Our boys competed well and had our chances to win. Anthony Struewing played a very steady match and came away with a big win at number 1 singles. Anthony had lost to his opponent the last two years and this was a great win. Jay McMullen played a very close first set, winning in a tie break. He then ran away with the second set. He was calm and collected throughout and came up with big points when he needed them. At three singles, Abel Parsley won the first set quickly and then his opponent responded. Abel fought until the end, coming up short in three sets. Evan Miller and Grady Simpkins battled one of the best double teams around, playing a close first set. We had some chances to make it 4-4 and put pressure on, but credit to Waldron for coming up with big shots. Angelo Amora and Eli Laughlin lost both sets in tie breakers. They competed hard and were so close to winning both sets.
