The Connersville boys and girls cross country teams competed Saturday at the South Dearborn Invitational, with both teams taking on the 5,000-meter course. Freshman Caroline Roberts represented the Spartans in the girls race, turning in a strong performance. Roberts placed 18th out of 57 runners, crossing the finish line in 23:22.85. The boys took to the course directly following the girls race. Freshman Masyn Welter led the Spartans, earning a medal with a 15th-place finish out of 62 runners. Welter completed the 5K in 19:07.02. Freshman Alexander Struewing had an impressive outing, setting a personal-best time of 22:08.86. Junior Colton Hammons led the pack out of the start and battled through the course to finish in 24:12.99. Freshman Connor Evans rounded out the Spartans’ effort, completing the 5K in 25:58.65. The Spartan cross country team will be back in action on September 22 at Union-Modoc High School.
