The Connersville Spartans boys and girls cross country teams competed Tuesday at Union High School in a 5K invitational, turning in several strong performances. Freshman Caroline Roberts led the way for the girls with an impressive 2nd-place finish crossing the finish line in 24:37.03. Sophomore Martina Planas also put together a strong performance, finishing 13th overall with a time of 29:35.69. The boys team took to the course directly after the girls and delivered several impressive runs. Freshman Masyn Welter led the pack for the Spartans, finishing 6th overall in 20:12.19. Welter capped off his race with an impressive sprint to the finish, overtaking two opponents in the closing stretch. Senior Hunter Bales followed closely behind, crossing the finish line in 21:46.51 to earn another strong finish for the Spartans. Freshman Alexander Struewing completed the 5K in 24:18.33, with teammate Colton Hammons right behind him in 24:25.38. Connor Evans rounded out the Spartans’ boys lineup, finishing the race in 26:27.49. The Connersville boys and girls cross country teams will be back in action this Saturday at home for senior night.
